Spiritual Formation

An academically based classical education immersed in the truths and teachings of the Catholic Faith.

At Sacred Heart, careful attention is given to the spiritual formation of each scholar. Existing within the Sisters’ convent, their home and place of worship, the atmosphere of the school is both sacred and familial, providing a strikingly unique space for spiritual formation. From Science to Literature, from Arithmetic to History, the Catholic spiritual life is woven into every aspect of the school day.

Morning Prayer

Every school day begins before the Blessed Sacrament in the Sisters’ chapel. The morning offering and various seasonal devotions are recited. The time of prayer ends with sacred singing and the recitation of our school’s Honour Code to set each scholar in the right direction for the day.

Angelus at Noon

Before lunch the scholars recite the Angelus and the prayer before meals. Senior Scholars recite the Angelus in Latin.

Theology Class

Theology is one of the daily core subjects at Sacred Heart and it is taught by one of the Sisters.

Dismissal Prayers

Before dismissal the Scholars gather for a brief examination of conscience and the recitation of the Confiteor before thanking their teachers for the day and being dismissed.

Weekly Mass

Several priests from around the diocese, who are involved with the school as spiritual guides on a regular basis, celebrate Holy Mass each Friday afternoon in the Sisters’ chapel as the climax of the school week. Senior Scholar boys take turns serving at the altar.

Seasonal Devotions

The Holy Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration, Advent Jesse Tree and Lenten Stations of the Cross, Marian and Sacred Heart processions are all a part of the spiritual life at Sacred Heart as scholars live the feasts and seasons of the Catholic Church.
